Pictured here is my mentor Curt Mellott. I have been fortunate enough to work with Curt for mentorship as I have known him for about thirteen years as I met him at the baseball field when I was just a young child and he was coaching my older brother. He is one that I can work under and learn many experiences in terms of coaching as he has been at it for many years and knows the ins and outs of coaching.
Overall, there are many areas in which I can study and learn from through Curt that would not only help me in the area of coaching, but also life in general and any future jobs that I may obtain. I have had the pleasure of playing under Curt for four years while I attended Tiffin Columbian High School and while playing for him I could easily see that he has a great passion for what he does and an even bigger passion for the game of baseball. He is a coach who is will make his players work to earn playing time, while at the same time teaching them all of the fundamentals needed to play the
game that he loves so much the right way.
Like myself Curt is a Tiffin Columbian graduate as he was a member of the 1992 graduating class. Upon graduation Curt attended Otterbein University where he was a member of the baseball team. He was a 1996 graduate of Otterbein University where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Life Science. Following this he went into coaching and became an assistant for Tiffin Columbian, where he coached for a year before returning to Otterbein in order to become a graduate assistant. Curt served as a graduate assistant at Otterbein for two years before receiving his Teaching Certificate.
Upon receiving his Master’s Curt returned to Tiffin Columbian where he served as an assistant for one more year before taking over the head coaching position in 2001. He just finished up is thirteenth year as head coach as looking to continue. Since becoming head coach Curt has accumulated many accolades and among those accolades would be winning three Northern Ohio League Titles, two Sectional Championship title, being named Coach of the Year multiple times, while also being the President of the District 9 Baseball Association, while also being a former ACME Baseball Commissioner. He is also a part of developing the Strike Out Cancer Benefit Game for the Columbian Baseball program which is used to help raise funds and awareness for any and all forms of cancer. Thus, as it can be seen Curt is very devoted to his coaching position as well as being a full time teacher and his work extends far beyond the baseball diamond or the classroom.
He is coach in which players can look up to as a role model and one which players can look to for guidance. He is also a coach who looks to not only make his players better on the field, but a coach who looks to make his players better individuals and help them prepare for life after school and baseball. Curt currently resides in Tiffin, Ohio with his wife Melissa whom he has been married to for thirteen years and their three children Carson-10, Mattingly-8, Maizie-6.
