Youth Clinic For Clinton Baseball PLayers
The next event that was held was not one that was held by the entire baseball team. Instead this was an event that spanned out over three consecutive Sundays that was led and organized by myself and another assistant coach named KC Weber. The purpose of these camps were very similar to what we as a team had one with our youth camps, but with this we were centered on three specific teams and we were basically in charge of leading practices with these young boys. All three teams make up Clinton Baseball for our area, but each team is a different age group.
The first of these camps/practices that were hosted by Coach Weber and myself was on March 23, 2014. At this camp the main focus for the three teams was hitting. We worked on tee work, live hitting, and base running on hits. For this camp my main focus was to work with each kid on the tees. We did basic drills with the tees as we were limited to an hour per team. Thus, my focus was to make sure that the children were in the proper batting stance and that their hands were in the right spot prior to hitting. Once this was done and understood the focus was to teach the kids of the importance of swinging down and through the baseball. Once the basic fundamentals were taught we took the kids down and let them hit live pitching.
The second of these camps was held on March 30, 2014. The focus of this day with each team was defense. We took each team and finally got to go outside with nice weather in order to work on the proper mechanics for fielding not only ground balls, but fly balls as well. We took the kids through various drills for fielding ground balls while at the same time teaching them to be behind the ball on fly balls while using both hands to catch the ball.
The final camp for these teams was held on April 6, 2014. On this day the idea of Coach Weber and I was simply to combine what we had done the previous two weeks as a way to try and refresh the memories of the boys while at the same time letting them have a little bit of fun.
