Starting the Development Early on
When looking at particular events that were held during this mentorship there are a number of things that were done and multiple events that were held by the Tiffin Columbian Baseball team including players and coaches. The first of these events that were held would be two youth camps that were held for local elementary students.
The first of these camps was held on March 8, 2014. It was a camp that was intended for all boy within the Tiffin City School system grades two through five who were interested in attending. At this camp the focus was to teach the fundamentals to these young boys so they would have a better understanding of the game. As it will be seen below the boys were divided up based on grade and each had a station in which they were a part of. These stations included throwing, fielding, hitting drills, and live swings that were taken in our weight room otherwise known as the “FORT.”
Overall, this was a successful event and has been for the team in past years as it helps provided an opportunity for our team to get out and involved with the community by giving back to these young boys by providing them a chance to learn from our players and coaches while also having fun at the same time.
Below is the camp form that needed to be completed in order for these boys to participate in the camp. Also, this form provides the camp itinerary/schedule that we followed.

Our next camp that we held was held with the same idea in mind as with the first camp. However, this camp was intended for an older group which included students in grades six through eighth. At this camp we had boys who were not only a part of the Tiffin City School system, but we also had a few from the surrounding area who attended as well.
This camp was held on March 15, 2014 by the Tiffin Columbian Baseball players and coaches. As mentioned this camp was done with the same goal in mind to teach these boys the fundamentals, but it was different in the aspect that we treated this camp as if it was almost one of our normal practices. What is meant by this is that we divided up our players and put them with groups of boys so that they could show what needed to be done and then the boys would do it as if they were going through one of our practices. Thus, since these boys were older and since they play by different rules than the younger group from March 8th, we could go into a little more detail when it came to drills and fundamentals.
At this camp I was in charge of teaching various fundamentals, which included our stretching routine, our throwing routine, base running, pitching, hitting, etc. Overall, this was a lot of work to wrap into such a small amount of time on this Saturday, but overall, it was completed and these boys were able to learn a little bit more about the game that they may not have known previously.
Just like the previous camp, i have provided the camp form that we used for these boys which also includes the camp itinerary to show how this camp was run and how it varies from the first camp that we held for the younger grades.

Also, I am providing the link where these forms can be found as my mentor Curt Mellott has established a site starting with these camps in which communication can be made about these camps.
